Seasonal Make-Up AdvicePosted on: 23 December 2013 by Gareth Hargreaves
We asked the experts for their favourite seasonal beauty tricks.
Every woman wants to look like a star, but most of us don't have a make-up pro on hand to help - so we asked the beauty experts to reveal their top beauty tricks for this season. Read on for their advice on creating the perfect party face.
Bobbi Brown, make-up artist and founder of Bobbi Brown CosmeticsAnyone can wear shimmer makeup if used properly. To avoid over-kill do not use on lips, cheeks or eyes at the same time. Focus on using it on one feature - dust a sheer gold eye shadow on the lower lid; highlight cheeks with a golden bronzer layered over blush; or slick on a sheer, gold gloss over your nude lipstick.
For long lasting eyes, begin by applying Eye Cream to the under eye area only - any extra moisture on the eyelid will cause the shadow to crease. After that, use a puff to press powder onto your entire eyelid and then sweep Eye Shadow over top from the lash line to the crease of the lid. For liner, use a touch of water to dampen the Eye Liner Brush before dipping it into the Eye Shadow - it lasts much longer when applied wet. Using feather light strokes, make a thin line across the top and bottom lashes, connecting them at the corners.
If you're heading to a party straight from work, as so many of us do, you can add a touch of evening glamour with just a few steps:
To give your eyes a lift, simply add a touch of colour, or build on the colour you're already wearing. For example, just a dusting of Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow, in a flattering shade like Rose Gold, will look great for work.
Then for evening, simply layer on an additional coat or two - by building on the colour, you're adding texture and shimmer to your eye makeup - a perfect look for evening. Add a slightly brighter or darker Lip Colour (try Rose Berry) and you're done!
Alan Pan, international make-up artist for Estee LauderThe trend for the forthcoming party season is inspired by the rich textures of the season's metallic accents; sophisticated shades of gold, copper and bronze and hints of rich metallic red. Make sure eyes sparkle in soft golden shades and cheeks glow with shimmering warmth.
First, you need to start with glowing skin. You can either use an illuminating face primer underneath your foundation to create a soft and subtle luminating finish - or if you don't want to use foundation, then this can be used by itself, or can even be mixed with your foundation for an extra glow! If you do use foundation, apply this next making sure you use a foundation brush to achieve a flawless finish. For a more glamorous, evening look, use a pressed shimmer powder and apply it gently to the forehead, the bridge of the nose and under the eye area to create definition on the face.
For the eyes, it is best to use two colours for a more dramatic effect. Sweep the darker shade from the inner corner of the eye to the end of the eyelid, then apply the lighter shade under the eye brow area. To add shimmer to this look, try the Double Wear Stay-in-Place ShadowStick in Gold Pearl at the inner corner of the eye to create an extra sparkle. Finish the eye with plenty of black mascara and a touch of black eyeliner in the outer corner of the eye.
For lips this season, go for a ruby red or classic red lipstick. Estee Lauder's Pure Color Lipstick in Gold Ruby is the perfect shade and has a very subtle shimmer to it too. For added shine layer on a similar coloured gloss or wear the gloss alone for a glamorous gleam.
Jackie Tyson, celebrity make-up artist for AvonIf you are partying straight after work, make-up needs to look flawless but be quick and easy to apply. Use wipes to wash away the day's make-up, but leave the eyes on. You can build on these later! Use moisturiser to nourish the skin. Once clean and moisturised, apply foundation all over the face, blending down onto the neck. For hero style staying power, dust a light layer of loose powder over the top to set the foundation. I recommend PerfectWear Foundation, set with Personal Match Loose Powder.
Create perfect bone structure by applying a neutral blush under the cheek bone, blending in an upward motion. Try True Colour Blush in Classic Neutral.
Metallic eyeshadows are in and are great for a smouldering, glamorous party look. Firstly, use a kohl eyeliner such as, Glimmersticks Eyeliner in Blackest Black around the eye, drawing close to the lash line. Use True Colour Eyeshadow Quad in Smokey Eyes, blending the darkest shade on the outside corner of the eye, with a small brush. From the corner brush out and up! Apply a mid-tone to the crease of the eyelid to define your socket line. Using a flash of the pale light reflecting shade in the inner corners of the eye will widen them. For the intense, trendy look apply the GlimmersticksEyeliner to the inside rim of the eye. Re-coat your lashes with mascara. Superfull Mascara with add volume and length.
As do celebrities, ensure eyebrows are groomed by shaping them with a Glimmersticks Brow Definer.
Use a big soft brush to lightly dust bronzing powder over your cheeks. For a pretty glow use, Arabian Glow Bronzing Pearls.
Apply a lip liner all over the lip's surface to make your lipstick last! Using a lip brush, add some subtle colour with Ultra Colour Rich Sheer Lipstick in Sheer Ice. Last but not least, use GlazewearExtreme Shine Clear Lip Gloss to give you that sexy sparkle.
To top off your look, use a concealer to lighten any dark circles under your eyes. Invisible Light Concealer is perfect as it is light reflecting.
