Every car owner tends to cut back on maintenance cost, since it’s written in their genes. While this habit may save them a few bucks every month but it’s all going to get even in the near future at the hands of one or multiple expensive repairs.

For an average individual, car is a big purchase, and it must go hundreds and thousands of miles without complaining. And this is possible only if you have a caring spot for its maintenance. If you take care of your car on a regular basis, it shall be there for you when you need it the most; else it’s not uncommon for a car to breakdown in the middle of nowhere.

Here are some car maintenance tips to save you from plaintive cries in the long run.

Make sure your car’s cooling system is in top condition

Surprisingly, an engine has the tendency to damage itself. A lot of friction takes place inside engine’s cylinders, which subsequently generates heat. This heat, if kept unchecked, can be responsible for the engine damage and hence expensive repairs. Nothing damages your car the way excessive engine’s heat does. That explains why cooling system exists under the hood. It is advised to check for any leakage in radiator's upper or lower tank or its hoses. Make sure the rubber seal underneath radiator cap has not worn out and there's enough coolant in the radiator to support cooling system's efficiency.

Wheels and Suspension

Wheel alignment is another thing that should be taken care of to eliminate premature wearing of tyres. Get your wheels aligned every 3k miles or 2 months, whichever is earlier. If you are more into treading off-road, drive carefully to make sure your car's suspension does not bear the brunt, since replacement can burn a hole in your pocket.

Body maintenance

Even if you think that scuff on your car won't affect the performance, it is still as good as an eyesore. If your car gets a scar, it need not be there any longer than a day. With smart repairs techniques, scratch removal and paintless dent removal is not just a possibility but it is fast and simple as well. Same applies to alloy wheel and End of lease hire refurbishment. With the latest technology and equipment, your car could be reincarnated into something new and different.

Never let your engine run dry

Engine oil is very important to provide lubrication between pistons and cylinders. One must pull out dip-stick to check the oil level at least once a week. If it has dropped significantly, top it off without any delay, and if the level is dropping frequently, get your car checked by a mechanic. There could be a leakage in the head gasket.

Self-start motor and battery

A car does not have any alternative to self-start, except for asking someone to give a little push or if you are lucky enough to be on a slope. It is recommended to get the self-start motor serviced every year before it starts taking rain-check on you.

It won't be wrong to call battery the power house of a car. It helps engine to kick in and lets you operate music system, fan, lights, etc without having to start the engine. In the wake of the amount of abuse it is able to take, it is important to get it checked during routine servicing in order to keep it in good shape.

Keeping the above tips in mind, you would never face any major problem. Although there's no denying the importance of cutting back on maintenance expenses but it doesn't make sense to put the car's health at stake either.
