Mulled wine recipePosted on: 23 December 2011 by Gareth Hargreaves
Delicious, festive mulled wine recipe full of spices and the season's cheer.
Mulled wine is so easy to make and tastes like Christmas in a glass. Not only is a fantastic social drink it permeates your house with the wonderful aroma of those traditional festive spices like cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg. There is no right or wrong way to make the drink so if you have a favourite fruit or spice add it to the mix. Some say a good glug of sloe gin works well ... but we haven't tried that - yet!
- 300ml (1/2 pint) water
- 100g (4 oz) sugar
- 4 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 lemon, sliced thinly
- 1 bottle red wine (cabernet sauvignon, merlot or similar style)
- 1 orange, sliced thinly
Into the pan place the water, sugar and the spices and bring to the boil. Remove from the heat and stir in the lemons. Allow it to stand for about 10 mins.
Add the wine and heat again without boiling (if you see white steam thats the alchohol boiling off). Strain into a heated bowl, add the orange slices and serve hot.
Guaranteed to warm you up!!
