How & When To Secure Your Tour Of Choice

Posted on: 23 April 2009 by Gareth Hargreaves

The summer holidays are coming up, and travel consumers are looking out for the best deals, but is it best to book last-minute or to seal your travel arrangements now?

Many people believe that, to get the best value and choice in touring holidays, you should book early. But whilst there is some truth in that, tours specialist Jetsave explain that some tours are equally good value when booked just 4-8 weeks before departure.

It’s always been considered that both Touring and Walking themed holidays both need to be booked in advance as places are numbered, however this isn’t always the case, according to Sarah Lax, Jetsave’s programme director

“We specialise in Tour Holidays, and although it is true that some holidays should be booked in advance such as visits to New England in the Fall, because there is a strictly limited pocket of time in which to see autumn colour,  other tours run more frequently, allowing us to accommodate last minute requests too.”

This year, tourism and holidays is a competitive business and because of this it will pay for customers to watch out for special late deals that holiday providers are offering as they should be able to save significant sums.

Booking Last-Minute

The Southern Music & Dixieland Tour Of The Southern States

This has been reduced to just £899pp – a saving of £259pp!

The music trail leads from the birthplace of jazz in New Orleans along the ‘Blues Highway’ to Memphis - including a visit to Elvis Presley’s Graceland – and on to the country music capital of Nashville.  It even stops off at Chattanooga, home of the legendary ‘choo-choo’.  The tour price includes Delta airlines flights, B&B accommodation for ten nights, coach travel, itinerary excursions and the services of an experienced tour director.

This particular deal departs London Heathrow on 22nd May. Check for more details.

Walking In Lake Garda

Thomson Lakes are currently offering an all Inclusive walking holiday package to Lake Garda for just £489 (reduced late offer deal).

This is a great opportunity to explore the picturesque part of Italy. The holiday is based in the pretty resort of Limone which is set in the hillside on the north-west shore of the lake. The village itself has brightly coloured pavement cafés and lively piazzas, and there are splendid views across the lake to the imposing peaks of Monte Baldo.

This particular late package includes ‘all inclusive’ accommodation at the Hotel Leonardo da Vinci, leaving Bristol on Saturday 2nd May for 7nights. It also includes a free Lake Tour excursion so you can really discover all that Lake Garda has to offer.

Rockies By Rail Tour

The famous Rockies by Rail Tour takes in the spectacular Canadian scenery from Calgary to Lake Louise before entering the Columbia Icefield and joining the famous Rocky Mountaineer train for a journey past snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls and fast flowing rivers.

The 10-day tour costs £1,249 per person, saving £264pp – over 17 % - and includes Air Canada flights from London Heathrow, 8 nights’ hotel accommodation, travel by coach and rail, meals aboard the Rocky Mountaineer, itinerary excursions and the services of a professional Jetsave Tour Director.

This particular deal departs from London Heathrow on 14th May and is another great offer by booking later and closer to the departing date.

Booking In Advance

The only disadvantage with booking some holidays later is that you may not get into the exact hotel, or resort you want. If this kind of thing worries you then there are still some deals to be had by booking in advance and especially if you book online.

The Colours Of Fall

Another touring holiday, this time departing from London Heathrow at the later date of 18th September in time to see startling displays of crimson, copper and bronze leaf colour in the rolling hills of Vermont and New Hampshire, the ‘Jetsave Colours of the Fall’ promises leaf-peepers a kaleidoscope of colours on a 10-day, four-state tour of New England.

The tour includes a day’s sightseeing in Boston before heading out to Cape Cod and the celebrity hideout of Martha’s Vineyard.  Other highlights include a visit to the ‘living museum’ of Plimoth Plantation, with the opportunity to see Plymouth Rock where the Pilgrim Fathers first landed in the USA, and a mountain-hugging trip on some of the world’s steepest rail tracks aboard the Mount Washington Cog Railway.

If you book in advance you get all of this for £929pp – saving £283pp, over 23% per cent! The price includes Virgin flights, accommodation for eight nights, coach travel, itinerary excursions and the services of an experienced tour director.

Rock Cottage For Christmas

Finally, checking for money off deals by booking extra-far in advance is always helpful as many companies want to secure bookings early this year. For example, CV Travel are currently offering a saving of 10% if customers book now for Christmas on some of their cottages – which is a perfect way to spend the Christmas Holidays with all the family.

Their ‘Rock Cottage’ which stands amid fields in the Northumbrian countryside, with stunning views towards the sea and Bamburgh Castle is currently on offer at £675 for a week’s stay if you book now for Christmas, a huge 10% saving. For more info check:
