Luxurious Elegance At Dromoland CastlePosted on: 21 April 2008 by Gareth Hargreaves
With its own championship golf course, fully-equipped spa and range of outdoor activities, it is easy to lose yourself at Dromoland Castle.
With an extraordinary history stretching back to the 5th Century, Dromoland Castle was originally the ancestral home of one of the few families of Gaelic Royalty, the direct descendants of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland.
Approached by a meandering drive that passes acres of magnificent lawns, the Castle overlooks its own Championship Golf Course and a glistening lake which commands the panoramic beauty of the surrounds.
Seamlessly blending Old-World elegance with contemporary luxuries, Dromoland's tradition of delivering impeccable, unobtrusive service is never compromised. Guests can relax and enjoy an exquisite selection of gourmet foods and wines; unwind slowly in the Castle's sauna, steam room or indoor heated pool; or enjoy a good book beside a crackling evening fire.
Guests can explore the Castle grounds on foot or by bike, horseride through the woods, fish at the lake or hone their clayshooting, archery and tennis skills.
With the help of the late, world renowned Irish golfing legend, J.B. Carr and one of golf's great golf course architects, Ron Kirby, the pair turned Dromoland Castle into an 18-hole golf course, set in one of Europe's finest country estates. The Dromoland Castle Golf Academy is home to the most modern golf practice facilities in Ireland and includes a 9 bay, floodlit, fully automated driving range; a 500 square metre Putting Green; a 450 square metre Bunker and Chipping Green complete with a riveted face links style bunker which is modelled on the famous 'Road Hole' bunker on the 17th at St Andrews. T he Castle's resident PGA Golf Professional, David Foley, is available to provide tuition with personalised programs and state-of-the art teaching aids
Situated just eight miles from Shannon International Airport, Dromoland Castle is the ideal base from which to explore the vibrant cities of Limerick and Galway, the wild countryside of Connemara the mighty Shannon River and the unique rugged landscape of The Burren.
