In 1975, Paddington made his debut television appearance in a TV series written by Michael Bond, brought to life by Ivor Wood and narrated by Sir Michael Horden. The series combined Wood’s technique of a 3-D Paddington puppet with 2-D backgrounds and other characters, becoming one of the UK’s most successful children’s programmes of all time.

Featuring all 56 classic episodes from the original 1975 series, the limited edition Paddington Bear Complete DVD Collection also contains three TV feature length specials. For an extra special touch, Michael Bond has endorsed in writing the authenticity of this four disc boxed set, which is packaged in a limited, classic Paddington-style suitcase making this a must for any DVD collector.

First appearing from Darkest Peru in Michael Bond’s A Bear Called Paddington, the thoughtful bear continues to delight generations of readers and viewers with his warmth and good intentions, most of which result in rather sticky situations.

40 million Paddington books have sold worldwide in over 40 languages. To confirm his worldwide appeal, not to mention his diplomatic skills, in June the Peruvian Ambassador Ricardo V. Luna presented the bear with his own Peruvian passport, stamped and authorised by Peru’s Foreign Secretary at a special event hosted by the Ambassador at his London residence, not far from Paddington Station.

Paddington fans old and new have enjoyed a mass of nationwide 50th anniversary activity this year, attracting huge media attention. In February, Paddington was made a patron of The World’s Original Marmalade Festival while in May the bear featured on the cover of The Times Magazine.

Paddington Bear Box June saw the launch of Paddington Here & Now, Michael Bond’s first Paddington book in 30 years while Paddington made a special appearance at Harrods and featured in Hamley’s window display for six weeks. Competitions, picnics and parties have also been held around the country and exclusive anniversary merchandise has been produced, allowing all Paddington fans to celebrate this very special year.
