Free Insulation For Over 70s
Demand for free home insulation is up by 25%, helping over 70s save energy, cut fuel costs and keep warm.
Following the introduction of an over 70s category under the Government's Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) entitling any homeowner or private tenant over 70 to free loft and cavity wall insulation, the Heat Project has reported record applications to the insulation scheme since announcing the new criteria last week.
The free loft and cavity wall insulation available to all homeowners and private tenants over 70 has received a warm welcome, as part of the Government's approach to reducing fuel poverty and cold related suffering in the vulnerable.
With a proven link between cold weather and serious health and wellbeing issues, especially in the vulnerable, the free insulation available could significantly reduce such unnecessary discomfort.
By correctly insulating a property, essentially making it warmer in winter and cooler in the summer, loft and cavity wall insulation can save the average property over £250 in wasted energy costs and nearly three tonnes of CO2 on an annual basis through reducing the amount of heat lost through the home.
The Heat Project has been insulating homes across Britain since 1997, helping to reduce the carbon footprint and energy costs of over 300,000 properties to date. Following their announcement of the new over 70s entitlement to free insulation, the number of applications to the scheme has risen by a record 25%.
"We only hope that homeowners and private tenants continue to contact us and apply for what they are entitled to," says Paul Johnson, Director of Operations at the Heat Project.
"We are naturally delighted to have had such a positive response rate to our recent announcement regarding the free insulation available to the over 70s. Our primary concern has always been to ensure better living conditions as a result of the cost savings and physical benefits of loft and cavity wall insulation."
