Odourless Fertilser
Traditionally farmers and growers always used organic fertilizers in the form of farmyard manure. This was obtained from animals that were kept on their farms. Farmyard manure is made from animal excrement coupled with some form of bedding material, usually straw. When the animal houses are cleaned out this manure is heaped up and left to decompose naturally, before it is spread onto the fields before the next crop is planted.
The use of organic fertilizers has many benefits for the farmer, grower and gardener. Plants use three main nutrients to grow, Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K). TThhese nutrients can all be supplied by natural plant and animal residues in the soil, in fact these nutrients and many others are stored in the soil by organic matter and are released as the plants use them. By using organic fertilizers in your garden you will increase the amount of nutrients available to your plants. You will also improve the soil structure by adding organic matter and minerals to the soil.
Adding organic matter to your soil will make it easier to work natural organisms in the soil will help you by improving drainage, tilth and workability. After a period of regular applications, your soil will ecome richer and darker in appearance and you will notice an increase in the number of worms which are good for your soil. The soil will become easier to work and digging will become less of a chore. Your plants will look stronger and healthier, and vegetables and flowers will be more productive.
By enriching the soil, you will have stronger, healthier plants, more resistant to drought and pest and disease attack. The problem gardeners have with using farmyard manure, is that it'is bulky, difficult to obtain and hard work to apply. It also smells unpleasant which can become a problem in a small garden. But now a Nottinghamshire based copaany called FertiPlus Garden Products have developed an odourless organic fertiliser made from chicken dung. The manure is obtained from a local farm in Kettering where they have the advantage of being able to control every stage of production. It's almost odourless because the manure is fully composted before being processed so it is a dry pelleted and ready to use.
A 10kg bag of FertiFowl is sufficient to treat up to 1000 square feet and costs £10 including delivery. For further details and a brochure telephone 01536 722424
