Classic Charm & Glamour
The intimate Chelsea Antiques Fair takes place from 20th to 24th September 2007.
From Renaissance textiles to campaign furniture, Damien Hurst to Fornasetti, ten new exhibitors invigorate the Royal Borough's favourite local fair.
New presentation, layout and array of exhibitors bring a fresh experience for visitors to the 101st Chelsea Antiques Fair, the world's consecutively longest running antiques fair.
Important
items being brought for sale by first-time exhibitors include a fabulous 1955
Architettura secretaire in wood and steel, with lithographic architectural decoration,
by Piero Fornasetti and Gio Ponti (Holly Johnson Antiques, price £80,000),
a remarkably well-preserved 40 metre length of c1680 French silk brocatelle
in glowing chartreuse green (Joanna Booth, £7,500),
a handsome Gillow's library cabinet in the Gothic taste c1825 with baize-lined
display drawers (Freshfords, £16,500), and an unusual Cartier onyx and
coral 1960s diamond-set ring (Anthea A.G. Antiques, £7,500).
The Chelsea Antiques Fair, established in 1950, is small but perfectly formed. It has always been a friendly local event, yet consistently draws a well-heeled international clientele. From 20th to 24th September 2007, visit the Fair to escape from outside bustle, and find a wonderful, without being overwhelming, choice of fine quality antiques and glittering jewellery. Accents of more contemporary works of art stimulate interest and the combination makes an easy shopping experience for curent tastes and fashions.
Furniture as the backbone of the fair retains traditional qualities with an early dateline of 1865, but as the venue is compact, increasing attention is being given to specialists in smaller objects, and all are being encouraged to add up to three items in each category which break the datelines - in favour of quality and design in any period, including even the finest 21st century pieces. So, look for surprises!
