Floral Button Gloves

Accessorize your hands and keep warm with this craft project.

These pretty woollen gloves will certainly bring a vintage flair to your winter wardrobe. Make them in white as I have, or if you happen to have a box full of lovely old buttons find a pair of gloves to go with them. These gloves are decorated with vintage-style buttons, felt and embroidery.

You Will Need

Scrap paper
Scissors
Small piece of mustard yellow felt
Suitable gloves
Needle
White sewing thread
Embroidery threads: red, green, blue
Small blue flower-shaped button
Small red round button

making floral button gloves1. Use diagram 1 to make a template of the simple flower shape. Cut the flower shape out of mustard yellow shape. Sew in place on the glove with white thread using small hem stitches. Referring to the diagram 1, decorate the flower using red embroidery thread.

making floral button gloves2. Use the green embroidery thread to attach the buttons. Refer to diagram 1 for positioning.

making floral button gloves3. Complete the rest of the embroidery for the flower and buttons, following the diagram 1.

making floral button gloves4. Use blue embroidery thread to sew nine French knots around the mustard yellow flower. Now decorate the other glove.

Tip If you happen to purchase a pair of gloves with a shaped card insert, keep it and insert it when embellishing the gloves - this will save your fingers getting pricked and stop you from sewing through both layers of the gloves.

These gloves have been decorated in a similar fashion to the woollen gloves. Make use of any nice buttons that you have lying at the bottom of your sewing box.

Refer to diagram 2 to decorate the gloves.

Tip You could decorate a hat or scarf in the same way to create a matching set. This would make a lovely gift for a special friend.

Make a simple box and cover it with pretty printed tissue paper. You can always buy a box if you prefer.
