Lost & Found
An unforgettable story of love, loss and a dog called Lloyd.
Roxanne Pellegrino’s world implodes when her husband dies unexpectedly aged just 42 years old. The only way she can deal with her all-consuming grief is to run away from her life.
She leaves her home, her career and her friends and heads for Peak’s Island, a tiny place off the coast of Maine. A former psychologist, she takes a job as an animal warden and reinvents her past so it doesn’t include the tragedy of her husband’s death or her inability to save him. Cutting herself off from her emotions and seeking a life where disaster can’t find her, she finds it’s a lot harder to avoid people and slowly she is drawn into the life of the island and the lives of her quirky neighbours.
And then Roxanne meets Lloyd. Lloyd is a stray dog, a large black Labrador retriever who is injured and lost. As the mystery of the dog’s injury and his missing owner unfolds, Roxanne begins to deal with her grief and discover that happiness can be found in unexpected places.
Lost and Found is a New York Times bestselling novel that has sold over 140,000 copies in the US.

She published Truth, a novel based on the life of Sojourner Truth in 2003 and edited an anthology, Women Writing in Prison, in 2005. Jacqueline teaches writing at international writing retreats and is the fiction editor for the online journal, Patchwork. She is currently working on her third novel.

Have your say...
I usually love this type of book, but to be honest it left me a totally flat. I just couldn't get 'into the story' though I cannot explain why exactly. The main character Roxanne Pellegrino doesn't work for me. There is far too little about her and her husband’s relationship to build up any real sympathy for the main character. Everything is about her is written around her job as a dog warden. Even Lloyd, the dog didn't come to life. Whether it was the writer’s style or maybe I was just in the wrong mood, I read it in 2 nights and was very pleased it wasn't any longer. The idea was great, but the book failed miserably. Sorry, but that's my opinion.
