Where the River Ends is a poignant and emotional novel with an intensely moving and unforgettable love story at its heart - the story of one man’s love for his dying wife.

This beautifully written, lyrical novel tells the story of Chris Michaels and Abbie Colman. Abbie is a successful model and the only child of South Carolina’s most senior senator and Chris is a gifted artist, who grew up in a trailer park on the wrong side of the tracks. After a chance encounter, fate brings them together and they marry quickly and secretly with much opposition from her family. They set about building their lives together enjoying greater successes and outwardly, a charmed life.

Out of the blue, Abbie is diagnosed with breast cancer and after four years of treatment, her case is now terminal. Running out of options and armed with Abbie’s wish list of ten things she wants to do before she dies, they escape the sterility of the hospice and steal away in the middle of the night.

The wishes are simple, 'normal', because after four years of treatment, 'normal' is a fleeting memory. She wants to dance with her husband, drink wine on a beach and laugh until it hurts.

What begins as a final trip down the St. Mary’s River, a river that holds so many memories for them both, becomes not only a race against the weather and time, but a metaphor for the enduring and ultimately, redemptive power of love.

Charles Martin is the author of six novels and lives with his wife and three boys near the St. John’s River in Jacksonville, Florida.

He earned his BA in English from Florida State University and his MA in Journalism and Ph.D in Communication from Regent University before serving one year as an adjunct professor in the English department and as a doctoral fellow at Regent.

In 1999, he left his career in business to pursue writing.

When he’s not doing that, he fishes with his boys, gardens with his wife and coaches T-ball.
