Anne Stone's Genealogy Story
“With the help of Ancestry.co.uk providing the censuses I have been able to piece together my great Uncle Robert’s family.” - Anne Stones.
Anne wanted to trace her family history because she thinks it is important to know about her past and ancestors. She also wanted to uncover some old family skeletons that her relatives refused to talk about.
“Knowing my family's past is important to me because I feel that my ancestors are willing me on to find out all about them. Sometimes, when I find a bit of information I get this 'gut' feeling urging me on to find out more."
"For instance I have found my great Uncle Robert's family. The story passed down was that he was born to a man other than my great grandfather, his name actually having been mentioned but, at this stage, nobody would want to divulge it. "
Anne started her search with the 1871 census, and with the help of Ancestry was able to uncover many family secrets and skeletons. Anne discovered two illegitimate children in the family. Her own grandmother was born to a man other than her great grand father and she was able to trace her real father through Ancestry.
"Also word was passed down that my own grandmother was also fathered by another man other than her mum's husband and, having found a family with the surname of her real father, am now on the trail of trying to find out who he really was," Anne continues.
"I feel like 'Miss Marple' and find it all very exciting. I bless the day that I subscribed to Ancestry.co.uk as the information I have found on there as been amazing!”
