Age Discrimination
against older people is rife in British society and restricts their everyday
lives. It is unjust, unfair and must end. Help the Aged has
commissioned a report into Age Discrimination, major findings include:
- Health: Upper age limits exist for vital services like heart bypass operations, kidney dialysis and breast cancer screening.
- Social Care: Cost ceilings (upper limits on expenditure amounts) for older people are significantly lower than for younger users of social services commissioned care.
- Employment: Ten percent of
companies have no staff over the age of fifty. Ninety percent of older
people believe that employers discriminate against them.
