Knock out flu this winter

Age Concern England have joined the Department of Health to launch the national flu immunisation awareness campaign. Once again, Sir Henry Cooper will be endorsing the campaign urging the over 65s to take advantage of the free flu jab. Almost 11.5 million doses of vaccine are available from GP surgeries and health centres throughout October and November.

For older people flu can be very serious as resistance to infection is lower and can lead to more serious illnesses.

We want to encourage all older people to get the free jab, especially those in "at risk" groups, for example those who suffer from a medical condition such as chronic kidney, heart or respiratory conditions, which make them more vulnerable to flu.

Gordon Lishman, Director General, Age Concern England, says:

"One of the best things that older people can do this winter is to protect themselves from flu by taking advantage of the free flu vaccination. Prevention is definitely better than cure."
