Warm hearts Week

Community groups across the country will join forces with local businesses to tackle isolation among older people during the British Gas Help the Aged Partnership's Warm Hearts Week from 3-9 December.

More than 30,000 community groups and day centres have already been approached to participate in this year's Warm Hearts Week. Many of these groups will hold a range of exciting social events including day trips, tea dances and creative workshops. Participating businesses donate their time to the events to give older people the opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people.

Community groups and centres interested in participating should contact the Warm Hearts Week hotline on 0845 450 0409 for an information pack.

This is the second Warm Hearts Week, with last year's highly successful event seeing hairdressers provide free haircuts, wine merchants give tasting sessions and representatives from police forces advising on home safety.

British Gas Help the Aged Partnership spokesperson, Simon Henderson said:
"Warm Hearts Week is finding solutions to the problems of isolation and loneliness among our older people. We ask the community to extend the hand of friendship and support this week to ease the burden of loneliness that many older people are forced to endure.

With help from the business community, we can achieve our aims in a way that is enjoyable for everyone and at the same time address the week's serious underlying issues."

Warm Hearts Week is part of the British Gas Help the Aged's Isolation campaign, which was developed after MORI poll results revealed more than one million older people in the UK feel trapped in their own homes.
