The Croft Historic Rally
Join classic cars on a thrilling drive through Yorkshire and Durham, on Sunday 3rd February 2008.
Stockton & District Motor Club is organising the second running of the Croft Historic Rally this year. The start and finish will be at Darlington Football stadium and the route will use the nearby Croft racing circuit and classic North Yorkshire and County Durham roads.
Entries of many different ages and models of car have been received with everything from the ubiquitous Escorts, Sunbeams, 911s and Avengers to a rather more "stately" Jaguar XK 150. The event is open to any vehicle made prior to December 31st 1982 which complies with MSA (Motor Sports Association) Regulations.
During the event drivers will be faced with up to 12 driving tests all held on the circuit and service roads at Croft and the stadium car park, these will be on mainly tarmac, with some smooth gravel. The tests are of the "open" variety, with no reversing, designed to test the driver's skill and not his/her mental ability.
Between certain tests drivers will leave the circuit to take circular routes defined by simple navigation. Along the way will be three regularity sections. Route checks in the form of code boards should be recorded along the route to confirm compliance with the navigation.
Spectators are welcome to view the nine special tests at Croft circuit throughout the day, although there may be an admission charge. It is to be noted Stockton & Darlington Motor Club have no control over this and is at the circuit's discretion. Due to safety restrictions there is no spectator access to tests 1 and 11 at Darlington Football club.
Marshals are required to help out on the day. Anyone interested in helping should email the chief marshal Dave Brownridge at chrmarshal@hotmail.com indicating if you would prefer tests or road time controls. Each marshal shall be provided with a packed lunch and entered into a prize draw.
Entries are still available and regulations for the event can be downloaded from the event website www.crofthistoricrally.co.uk.
The event is open to all fully elected members of the organising Club and of the Clubs in the NESCRO (North of England and Scotland Classic Rally Organisation) Group. All entrants must produce a valid Club Membership Card for inspection when signing on.
The entry list closes on Wednesday 23rd January 2008. The maximum number of entries will be 50 - a current entry list is on the event website.
A lunch halt will be taken at Croft circuit and there will be a two course meal following the event at the football stadium in the conference and banqueting suite. There is ample room for trailers as well as competing cars at the start/finish venue.
