Are You A Women's Institute Icon?Posted on: 09 June 2008 by Gareth Hargreaves
This summer Sky and the Women’s Institute are joining forces to find the nation’s W-ICON.
The winning WI member will star in an online campaign on Sky’s educational website, Sky Learning.
The ultimate W-ICON will introduce a series of online ‘How To’ films aimed to spread the expert knowledge of the WI and inspire people across the country to learn new skills, whatever their age or ability. The video guides will provide easy solutions and tips on a range of subjects including sustainability in the home, awakening your creativity, getting to grips with the internet and even family life and health.
By combining Sky’s experience of providing broadband internet services for people across the country with the WI’s heritage in keeping basic skills alive in households throughout the UK Sky hope both the search for the W-ICON and the ‘How To’ guides will be genuinely useful and inspirational.
The top ten finalists will then be judged by a panel made up of a celebrity expert, WI member and Sky representative in August. The eventual winner will be named in September to coincide with the launch of the ‘How To’ guides.
In addition, the W-ICON will also receive a prize of £10,000 to spend on a community based project of their choice. This project could be anything from inspiring a local school with lessons on how to paint, to creating a vegetable garden for a local community centre.
If you’re interested in becoming the face of the Sky W-ICON campaign or know a WI member who has any surprising or unexpected hobbies, passions or skills, visit www.sky.com/w-icon to find out more and download an application form.
