Live On Sky Sports In October And NovemberPosted on: 20 October 2008 by Gareth Hargreaves
Sky Sports brings you a fantastic selection of live events this October and November including the highly anticipated Stanford Super Series, The Rugby League World Cup and much more.
Live Stanford Super Series
The 'Stanford Super Series' gets under way on 25th October, culminating in one of the most talked-about cricket matches of all time, the 'Stanford 20/20 for 20' on 1st November, live and exclusive on Sky Sports.
$20 million is up for grabs as England take on the Stanford Superstars in the inaugural 'Stanford 20/20 for 20' in Antigua. The winnings are considered to be the richest team prize ever for a one-off sports contest.
The clash is one of six that Sky Sports will show live from the 'Stanford Super Series', a week of matches beginning 25th October. England and the Stanford Superstars will be joined by the 2008 Stanford 20/20 champions Trinidad & Tobago and Twenty20 Cup winners Middlesex. The schedule comprises four warm-up matches between the teams, a clash between Trinidad & Tobago and Middlesex, plus the 'Stanford 20/20 for 20'.
Live Rugby League World Cup
Sky Sports delivers the ultimate Rugby League competition, in possibly the most fiercely contested World Cup the sport has ever seen and the first since 2000. In 12 tournaments to date, there have only been two victors: Australia have won nine titles, with Great Britain claiming three crowns.
But this year sees plenty of changes, most notably in the vast improvement in standards around the globe. Plus, Great Britain ceases to be and England, Scotland and Ireland compete separately.
England have a strong side, coached by Tony Smith, skippered by Jamie Peacock and with a whole host of experienced Super League stars. The tournament takes place in Australia and starts Saturday 25th October.
Ricky Hatton V Paul Malignaggi - Live On Sky Box Office
Ricky Hatton returns to Las Vegas for his next World title fight on Saturday 22nd November, live on Sky Box Office and in high definition on Sky Box Office HD.
Ricky Hatton returns to the famous MGM Grand Casino for the first time since his unforgettable World title fight against Floyd Mayweather Jnr in December 2007. The two-weight world champion Ricky Hatton's IBO Light Welterweight title will be on the line against current IBF champion Paul Malignaggi from New York.
Over 30,000 British fans followed Ricky Hatton to Las Vegas for his fight against Mayweather, establishing him as one of the most popular boxers in the world. In May this year Hatton fought in front of 55,000 at the City of Manchester Stadium, setting a record post-World War II attendance for a boxing match in Great Britain.
Brooklyn-born Malignaggi, who is also known as the 'Magic Man', has won 25 of his 26 professional fights. He now trains at the legendary Gleason's Gym in Brooklyn - where the likes of Jake LaMotta, Roberto Duran, Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali have all prepared for some of the biggest fights in boxing history.
