Rugby Help For Forces Heroes
Rugby legends will turn out this weekend in a unique show of support for Help for Heroes.
Former rugby stars including Lawrence Dallaglio, Scott Gibbs, Martin Johnson, Jonah Lomu and Will Greenwood will join with the best of the Armed Forces players to battle it out in a spectacular game to raise money for the wounded.
The once in a lifetime game is aiming to raise £1million and will offer spectators the chance to see their old favourites turning out one more time before finally hanging up their boots.
Cross-code legend Martin Offiah will spearhead an England XV to take on an International XV and “Chariots” Offiah will roll into Twickenham hoping to put his 500 try-scoring wheels back into action.
The 41-year-old nicknamed after the film Chariots of Fire will line up alongside ex-England legends Johnson, Greenwood, Dan Luger, Mark Regan and skipper Dallaglio to take on the International side that will feature the likes of New Zealand giant Lomu.
Offiah revealed it’s been a while since his last rugby game and admitted the match will be far from friendly on the field.
“I haven’t played a game in ages, it’s been more football. I’ve started playing a bit of touch just to get back into it but I’ve had about six weeks to prepare and get fit and ready for the game,” says Offiah.
“It won’t be a friendly that’s for sure. All the ex-players will still have a point to prove and I know for a fact that the likes of Johnson, Dallaglio and Greenwood have been training intensely for it.”
“Nobody will want to be embarrassed. It’s for a great cause and we want to give it our all for the crowd and the charity.”
In fact, Dallaglio and Greenwood even turned out for the Wasps and Harlequins ‘A’ sides last week as they bid to put down their marker in Saturday’s clash.
The game kicks off at 2.30pm on 20th September 2008 at Twickenham.
The match aims to raise £1million for Help for Heroes charity, to aid the care and rehabilitation of injured British service personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Tickets are priced from £20 for adults, £10 for juniors (under 16) with a family ticket for two adults and two children costing £50.
