A new competition has been launched to find the UK’s biggest ultimate silver surfer.
The internet has revolutionized modern living but it’s the take up by over 50s
that has surprised most experts. Now home phone and broadband company, Homecall,
is scouring the country to find a mum, dad, grandma or grandpa that’s glued to a
computer screen almost 24/7.
The latest figures show that over 65% of over 50s regularly use the web, but the
competition organisers are looking for those who are endlessly dabbling with downloads
or experimenting on e-bay. Any man or woman who has really
embraced the technology needs to send a diary of their
weekly activities including exactly how much time they spend logged on and any
interesting stories about their obsession.
Broadband has of course made it much easier to stay logged on without worrying
about bills or utilising the phone line for long periods of time so perhaps
they’ve re-discovered old friends or relations, or even long lost lovers through
the web. Maybe it’s helped communicate more effectively and cheaply with loved ones
who live abroad, or possibly they have simply taken to researching their hobbies
and taken advantage of being able to shop from the comfort of their own home.
