Valentine’s Day travel!Posted on: 26 January 2011 by Rhian Mainwaring
Ideas for unusual and romantic spots to spend your Valentine’s Day…
Perhaps it’ll be slightly chilly this time of year, but the Tarrys has all mod cons with radiator central heating, fullsize oven and fridge as well as a double bed and bathroom with shower. We think this is a super romantic and unusual break with the added bonus of pub crawls along the river, dinners on the top terrace and getting warm and cosy beneath deck!
When: 11th -18th February
Cost £200 per person based on 2 sharing
Perfect for: Wildlife lovers and those with pets. Dogs are allowed and the first one's free!
Reims is stunningly beautiful and only a short distance from the south coast of England. With impressive architecture, beautiful scenery and as much champagne as you can drink, there really isn't a better location for a romantic break over Valentine's Day.
The Grape Escapes Valentine’s Tour (11- 13 February) is based in Reims, in the heart of the prestigious Champagne-making region. The trip includes a return Dover to Calais ferry crossing for a car and two people, two nights accommodation in a 3 star hotel in central Reims, a gourmet dinner and a full day tour of some of the region’s Champagne Houses.
Cost: £388 per person
Perfect for: Romantics with a real love of wine. Make sure you take advantage of the supermarket wine prices. We bought several varieties for a champagne tasting on our return, we couldn't tell the difference between the 99Cents bottle and the 10Euro one!
You can now rent National Trust properties for hostorical breaks in the UK. We like the look of The old School House in Truro, Cornwall. This single-storey cottage features a splendid Regency Gothic window, the front garden has wonderful views over fields to the sea, and beyond across Gerrans Bay all the way to Nare Head. This is a cosy little romantic getaway in a glorious location perfect for Valentine's Day.
Cost: £152.80 for the cottage from 14th February for 3 days
Perfect for: History lovers looking for a coastal break. This is a great little getaway escaping the mayhem of hotels on Valentine's Day!
