An Experience Break at Littlecote House

A photo of Littlecote House Hotel

It’s the ultimate unforgettable weekend, says Ted Roberts...

A fantastic long weekend at Littlecote House Hotel, and the garden’s come on a real treat. We’re even planning an allotment, it’s all down to Littlecote’s fantastic Gardening Experience Break; just one of many different supplementary break experiences run by Warner Leisure Hotels throughout the year.

The Gardening Experience is three days of horticultural bliss. It includes an unforgettable trip to RHS Wisley (although you can choose Kew, Hampton Court and Chelsea, too) along with plenty of leisurely dining. In other words, you don’t need fingers as green as my wife Lynda’s to enjoy it! It’s simply about sheer relaxation.

We all met over drinks on the first day, and there was a fascinating walk ’n’ talk through Littlecote’s own historic gardens. Resident experts demonstrated fruit in containers and beds, and showed us some unusual borders and hanging baskets. Lynda’s no slouch with the secateurs, but she was surprised by how much she learned. And by the end of a really entertaining Question Time, even I was hooked.

What’s really good about a Gardening Break at Littlecote is that it’s so easy to visit some of England’s finest gardens. Once you’ve arrived at the hotel, which is right in the middle of beautiful Berkshire, Warners lay on transport and you’re there in no time.

And Littlecote House itself...

Magnificent is an understatement. Littlecote is a restored Tudor mansion that’s absolutely steeped in history. Apparently Henry VIII courted Jane Seymour here, commemorated by a wonderful Cupid’s Head in the Great Hall. There’s a Cromwellian chapel, even the remains of a Roman villa. As for accommodation, our Bedroom was superb. Need I say more?

Everything was fabulous: food, nightly entertainment and leisure facilities, the lot. And you know what? No kids! All in all I couldn’t recommend Littlecote House Hotel too highly. No question we’ll be back for a different Experience Break, and soon.
