Over 60? Save Money On Train Travel
Over 60 and planning a trip by train? Make sure you buy a Senior Railcard first.
Ok, so it isn't free like the bus pass, but when you get to my age and are frequently dubbed 'senior' by younger marketing men who are probably less active than most people my age, I like to take advantage.
And that is exactly what I plan to do with the 'Senior' Railcard, by using the discounted fares to explore as much of the country as possible. I will simply make sure I am sprightly enough to still be taking advantage of being called 'senior' well into my octogenarian years - and the fact those younger marketing men will be reaching their 'senior' age of 60 by then, also brings a wry smile to my face!
Win, Win, Win!
We have 5 Senior Railcards worth £24 each to give away. To enter the competition, email makemeawinner@ 50connect.com.
Please note, you must be over 60 to enter this competition, and the normal 50connect competition terms apply.
But seriously, travelling by train is a great stress-free option and the perfect way to avoid traffic jams, the worry of where to park, the cost of parking and congestion charges. With the escalating price of petrol, it may actually be cheaper.
The train will take you to the heart of the city so you don’t waste any time getting to your destination, and you can read a book, the newspaper or catch up with friends on your mobile whilst you travel.
Whether you've always fancied taking a Magical Mystery tour to see the Beatles sites of Liverpool, or following the Jane Austen trail to the spa city of Bath, those cheap train fares can transport you to diverse destinations. There's also a discount on Oyster cards, allowing a whistlestop visit to London, and you can also save money on hotels, restaurants and attractions with a railcard too.
A Senior Railcard costs £24 a year, or £2 per month and saves you 1/3 off fares on rail travel throughout Great Britain. To purchase a Senior Railcard visit www.senior-railcard.co.uk or call National Rail enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.
Have your say...
This is the first time I have heard of this 1 third off, I think many people will take advantage of this offer if they are made aware.
I'd love a Senior Rail Card! I hate road journeys, but want to visit lots of places like the Eden project in Cornwall, then I'd be off to different locations researching people on my family tree.
