Travel tips for eco tours.

Are you currently buying Fair Trade coffee, Green and Blacks chocolate, are you concerned with how many 'air miles' have been clocked up on your Sunday lunch plate?  If so, there is a growing trend of holiday organisers which are specialising in 'eco-friendliness'.

As for those who don’t fully understand what this actually entails there are a new breed of tour operator, hotel, transport operator that will demonstrate their commitment to actively contributing to environmental, social, and economic issues (eco-tourism principles) relevant to their destinations.  As the popularity of the eco aware holiday continues the choice available is becoming more and more exciting.

On a quick scout around I found some wonderful breaks that do not substitute any of the experience at the cost of being eco-friendly and are competitively priced, have a look at what is available you may be surprised:

New Zealand - Akaroa
The historic French Village of Akaroa is 90 minutes drive from Christchurch. Here you can cruise around an extinct volcanic crater and experience majestic scenery and stunning wildlife on daily harbor cruises. You'll see the rare, native dolphin - the Hector's Dolphin as well as penguins and other sea birds and hear about Akaroa's fascinating past. The renowned vessel, Canterbury Cat, departs daily.

North Thailand
Experience North Thailand in ways few others every have the opportunity to with an ecotourism adventure learning the traditional medicines and spiritual paths from indigenous people.Visit the traditional hill tribe healers of North Thailand and learn of their herbal, spiritual and energy healing methods. Whether you are a healer or just have an interest in other cultures this is an uplifting experience.

This study opportunity includes visits to Wats (temples), remote North Thai Hill tribes and villages in a way few westerners have ever had the opportunity.

The Bahamas
Departing from Lucaya Grand Bahama The Dream Team arranges 7 day expeditions to kayak, snorkel, trek, fish, bird watch, and simply relax in the Bahamas. These expeditions primarily take place around the remote and undisturbed areas of East End, Grand Bahamas and Little Abaco.

Panama
Panama’s position as a narrow land bridge connecting two continents makes it one of the most bio-diverse places on earth.  Seakunga organise kayak tours to the Bocas Del Toro archipelago located at the mouth of the Chiriqui Lagoon, on the Caribbean side. Here in the alluring blue green waters, enjoy snorkeling among lively fish and vivid colours of some of the best preserved hard and soft coral alive.

Russia
Russia is one of the most attractive countries in the world in terms of ecological tourism - despite the fact that its environment was significantly damaged by the extensive industrialization during Soviet times; it still possesses a plentiful of unspoilt natural sites, which are protected by the state and are included in the register of reserves and national parks.  There are opportunities of seal watching at Lake Baikal, Siberian tiger watching in East Russia and Beluga Watching at the White Sea.
