Experience The Canadian Rockies
Journey through the Rockies, meet genuine Wild West cowboys and climb Mount Mackenzie whilst watching Grizzly bears in their natural habitat.
Climb mountains with cowboys, watch bears in their natural environment, snorkel with salmon and discover spectacular views over alpine meadows, crystal lakes and rainbow coloured ridgelines.
If the Canadian Rockies is your type of thing, then we have the perfect travel itinerary for you.
Journey into a remote part of the Canadian Rockies and follow sections of the 420km Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail, a historical overland trade route between the Pacific Ocean and British Columbia’s Bella Coola.
Continue through Fraser Valley and across Chilcotin Plateau keeping watch for Grizzly and Black Bear before snorkelling with spawning salmon in Bella Coola Valley.
With guidance from genuine Wild West cowboys and their horses, you’ll ascend Rainbow Mountain range for astonishing views over the vast wilderness of meadows and lakes.
From there you have an overnight stay in the Mackenzie Valley, home to Moose, Reindeer, Goat and Wolves at the traditional camping grounds of old-time hunters.
Here, day hikes allow you to explore the valley before climbing Mount Mackenzie’s 2,143 metre summit.
Climb out of the valley through the gentle Tweedsmuir Trail, continuing over a mountain pass and into beautiful alpine meadows and Octopus Lake camp.
Follow the Octopus trail through a plateau of lakes and meadows back to the trailhead. On to Bella Coola Valley, gateway to Great Bear Rainforest – one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet with a high number of Grizzly and Black Bears.
Relax on the river as you drift though temperate rainforest, snorkel in the company of expert biologist looking at the salmon spawning area, observe Bald Eagles circling over head and watch Grizzly Bears gorge on fish.
Return to Vancouver for a final night back in civilization before flying home, (Optional extensions for whale and seal-watching on Vancouver Island are also available).
The package costs from £2,595 p/p including scheduled flights, private transfers, guesthouse and camp accommodation, experienced guides, park fees, packhorse support, most meals, a native Indian rock art tour, salmon snorkelling and the river drift.
Walks Worldwide’s new guided, 14-day Wild West Mackenzie Trail departs London on July 20th and 9th August.
