Three ways to shiny hair
Posted on: 25 March 2008 by Gareth HargreavesIf your hair is looking drab and lacking shine try these natural home remedies.
Don't be disheartened by the changing condition of your hair. The change in body, colour tone and density are integral to the ageing process, but fear not, there are ways to cope with these changes and take the stress out of growing older.
- Surprisingly, beer is an excellent substance to give your hair shine. Put one can of beer in a saucepan, bring it to the boil and simmer until it reduces to a fifth of it's original quantity. Add the beer to a normal bottle of shampoo and use as normal.
- Modern hair products leave nasty residues that build-up on the hair shaft making it look dull. Products containing silicone are the worst offenders, making the hair static. Hairdressers recommend using a cleansing shampoo once a week to break-down this chemical residue but some natural products, like sage and vinegar, work just as well. Once a month massage some white vinegar through the hair, leave it to dry before rinsing out with water. Make an infusion of sage by placing 1 tablespoon of sage leaves in a cup of boiling water. Leave for at least half an hour before straining the mixture. Use as a final rinse after your normal wash.
- Green tea is good for dull hair. Make three quarters of a pint of green tea and whilst it is hot add 2 drop of rosemary essential oil. Rosemary enhances natural hair colour. Use as a final rinse after your usual shampoo. You could add a few drops of sage essential oil instead of the rosemary, or try one drop of each.
