3 Ways To Use Essential Oils For Greater Alignment Between The Mind, Body & Spirit

You might feel like the same person inside, but your body is starting to let you down and struggling to keep up. Thankfully essential oils can go at least some way to helping bring the body more in line with the youthful mind. Here's some essential oils you might want to use and how to use them.

If you're like me, when you were younger, your body could take a beating and bounce right back up with only minor muscle recovery soreness and full of energy to take on the new day. 

Be it sports, weight training, cardiovascular fitness, outdoor pursuits or strenuous work... you rarely incurred an injury and if you did, you healed quickly and as for tiredness, well you'll sleep when you're dead you used to say.

Fast forward 30 years and you might feel like the same person inside, but your body is starting to let you down and struggling to keep up.

You don't have as much energy as you used to and things that never used to trouble you have started aching for semingly no reason... even before any activity!

Thankfully essential oils can go at least some way to helping bring the body more in line with the youthful mind.

Here's some essential oils you might want to use and how to use them:

1. Essential oils to help fire up the brain and awaken the senses in the morning

  • Rosemary
  • Grapefruit
  • Peppermint
  • Eucalyptus

If you wake up feeling tired, run a nice bath and add a single drop of each oil above to a dessert spoon of carrier oil (10ml) before adding to the bath (see this essential oil guide for beginners to learn more about carrier oils and safety considerations of lots of essential oils).

Lie back and inhale deeply as the refreshing, revitalising aromas clear your airways and get the brain going.

Prefer a shower to a bath? Just add the blend to the floor of the shower.

Don't want a bath or a shower first thing? Add a few drops of the oils to a tissue or cotton wool ball and place it next to you as you enjoy a morning coffee. 

 

2. Essential oils to help with aches and pains

  • Helichrysum (Immortelle)
  • German Chamomile
  • Roman Chamomile
  • Geranium
  • Lavender
  • Rosemary
  • Cypress
  • Kunzea
  • Peppermint

Out of all the above, Kunzea has to be my favourite for pain but feel free to try several to see which works best with you or blend a couple together. Dilute 1-3 drops (if you blended some together then 1-3 drops of the blend) in a teaspoon (5ml) of carrier oil before massaging into the affected area of the body.

 

3. Essential oils to help relax and unwind at night to aid sleep

  • Lavender
  • Roman Chamomile
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Vetiver
  • Valerian
  • Neroli
  • Sweet Orange

You can use any one or a blend of some of the above oils before bed to help calm and relax the mind, lavender being the most commonly used.

If you have a diffuser, this is an easy method of use essential oils for sleep as it will diffuse the aroma into the air while you relax and drift off. Just make sure it has safety features such as auto or timed shut off unless you turn it off manually before actually going to sleep.

Alternatively you could take a bath and add 3-4 drops to a dessert spoon of carrier oil before adding to the bath.
