Storybook, fairytale weddings are still a possible dream, and with warm weather we’re drawn to the outdoors or more specifically beach weddings. If you have never been to one of these, and you are not sure how to organize it, what to do, and pay close attention to, here are a few tips on what you need to think about when planning.
Think about the Weather
Having a wedding on the beach can be quite tricky, as the ceremony has to be outside and you depend on the weather. So the best thing would be to choose a date in the late spring or summer, because there is a high possibility it will be sunny. One good thing is that you do not need to book some hall months in advance, but you can wait for the weather forecast and choose the exact date after you are certain that you have avoided rainy days. However, you can always book an indoor space in Sydney, just to have a backup plan, and still organize a ceremony in one of the wedding venues on northern beaches just 30 km away from the city.
What to Wear
It would be a good idea to avoid the big Cinderella dress if you decide to have a seaside wedding. Even princesses get out of their big puffy dresses when heading to the beach. Also, when walking down the sandy isle, it is of course easier if you wear a shorter dress and go barefoot – it is not traditional, but it is quite romantic. However, if you do decide to wear a longer one, chose a lighter material, something that will float in the wind as you wait for that magical ’I do’. You will also want to avoid lace, as it will be impossible to clean the dress afterwards, as well as heels, because the sand will make it difficult to walk. You will be way more comfortable if you dip your fingers in the sand.
Make Your Guests Comfortable
You and your better half are the most important people in the wedding, but your guests need to be comfortable too. As sand is an uneven surface, and it will be hard to seat your guests so that they are not afraid of falling of their chairs, it will be good to get one of the temporary floorings designed just for these occasions, with deck chairs for sitting.
Do not make big plans and over decorate, but rather keep it simple, as it will be the most unique way to go. Sounds of the waves are the music that suits the atmosphere just right, and the surrounding palm trees will be decorative enough. When it comes to your guests, do not forget to make a shoe station where they can take of whatever they have on their feet, and later clean them without having to walk with sand between their fingers all day long.
And one final tip: even though it is rather casual ceremony, you will still need to sign a few documents and get a permit. People tend to forget about it, but do not let it ruin the most special day in your life.
