How Croatia Became Our Home

Consider just this. Getting a new leash of energy, personality and peace of mind. It's worth it.
Even before marriage, my husband knew too well how much I loved the tranquillity of nature and he scheduled a surprise honeymoon in Croatia. We were lucky to enjoy the unique pristine nature of this country as we island hopped its countless archipelagos, sailed the Adriatic's peaceful waters and dived down its underwater caves. I indeed fell head over heels in love with Croatia, especially the Istria region, and it was my greatest wish that I would live in such an environment. Apparently, I wasn't the only one that fell in love; Croatia has since become our vacation destination, even as we live here now.
Work For It
We had saved quite some money and we needed to put it into a viable investment. We searched through the internet, searched for recommendations from friends and relatives on the best investment for the dollar. Eventually we spoke about our plan with a lovely couple who organised our stay when we were in Makarska. Out of the many choices, we were lucky to get a stone house on a big plot in Istria.
It was a beautiful stone house built with great influence of the Croatian architecture. As much as it was old, it was still strong with only a few parts worn out. Its interiors were still quite intact. I thought it was a great bargain as the buying plus the renovation cost was really worth what we needed at the end. Another factor that got me so attached to this house is its close proximity to the sea that I have never regretted to date, especially when I wake up in the morning and have my coffee on the balcony as I watch its beautiful waters. This place is also very close to town so shopping, travelling and communication has never been a hassle.
Renovation of the broken parts and a little remodelling was our next step. The landscape was a mess but with a huge potential. A local company did a great job in our garden, planting of flowers, hedges and trees and also fitting of outdoor lights. Now it is our permanent residence. We had nothing to lose as we had already made a concrete business plan for our new business in Croatia with my husband being the software developer and I helped him. We both worked remotely before, so that our move did not affect our jobs. Moreover, it expanded our horizons.
This is how Croatia became our home from a simple summer vacation house. We now live in this beautiful house that overlooks the Adriatic. We have a son who is 6 years old and my daughter is turning 5 at the end of this month. Croatia's people are warm hearted, kind and sociable. The weather is mild which makes it ideal for great days on the beach and the beauty of its nature can never find a perfect match. Living in Istria has given me a new leash of energy, personality and positivity in life given its peacefulness and such-organized way of life.
