Have you planned the perfect proposal for the woman you want to spend your life with? Great. All you need now is the perfect ring. It may sound complicated and seem like a stressful process, but it doesn't need to be.
Work Out a Budget
Before you even set foot inside a jewellery store or visit an online retailer, be sure of your budget first. One can easily get swept away into thinking that they have to spend a month's salary on their partner's engagement ring. This simply isn't true. The engagement ring most of all is a symbol of your love and commitment towards your partner, not a symbol of how wealthy you are. Also, if you go and blow a massive amount of your earnings on a ring, your honeymoon could become quite an austere experience!
Recently, you see more and more partners accompanying their husband to be into a jewellery store to chose a ring. Sure, allowing your partner to pick out the ring will ensure that she gets a ring she is fond of. But does it not take away all of the romance associated with proposing? Rest assured that your partner will be much happier when you propose out of the blue, with a beautiful ring that you yourself have chosen.
Work Out Her Ring Size
This can be tricky, but you can make it work with a little ingenuity. Some might say that the best way to determine a partner's ring size is simply to ask her. But again, this totally spoils any potential surprise proposal. A far better method is to find an existing ring in her jewellery box (one you know that fits) and take it into a jewellers to get the size.
Selecting the Diamond
There is a massive variety of diamond styles so understandably choosing just one might seem a little daunting. The best advice is to go on instinct. You'll surely have an idea of the kind of jewellery she likes based on her personality and of course jewellery she already owns. So go with your gut and choose something that just seems right for her. If you want to do a little research before purchasing, Diamonds and Rings have a fantastic online guide to diamond types.
What Really Counts
Just remember, the thought and the commitment associated with an engagement ring is what counts. So provided you get the size right and choose a ring that your intuition tells you is the right one, you can't lose.
