When formal occasions loom, this comprehensive guide will ensure you know exactly what wardrobes must-haves to stock up on...
The festivities at this time of year bring all sorts of challenges, including knowing what to wear for those parties and formal dinners. Whilst women seem to have hundreds of sparkly dresses to choose from in the shops, the same formal uniform doesn’t seem to exist for men, especially if you’re over the age of 50. To make things a little easier, here’s a compilation of a few must-have items that you’ll be able to dig out for formal occasions for years to come.
First up is a good quality shirt. You might have to pay a little extra than you’d like, but if you want the perfect fit, it’s something that’s well worth investing in. British heritage brand New and Lingwood hit the nail on the head when it comes to tailoring, so as you can imagine, their sharp shirts are the ultimate when it comes to quality.
A watch and a pair of cufflinks add a touch of class to any formal outfit, and you can’t go wrong with black. The rose gold adds an unusual, expensive looking touch to the ones we’ve picked out here, but if that’s not your thing, yellow gold or silver work just as well. The watch in question is by Rotary, whilst the cufflinks can be bought from Marks & Spencer.
A good pair of shoes goes without saying, and if you fancy something a bit different, brogues offer the perfect balance between smart and stylish. The pair we’ve picked out are by Rocha John Rocha at Debenhams, but you can get hold of brogues from most high street stores, as well as more upmarket retailers if you fancied splashing out.
The finishing touch has to be a splash of expensive smelling cologne, and Aqua Di Parma can’t be beaten in this department. Their Colonia Intensa is a warm, deep scent that’s perfect for evening wear.
