New experiences are always beneficial, in one way or another. When changing your living place it is all about preparation and learning the new ways. This could be crucial in order to have great experience on your new adventure instead of filling lost.

Studying abroad is a life changing experience that you will never forget. Whether it's your first time out of the country or you've already accumulated many stamps in your passport, being on your own for the first time in a foreign country will teach you plenty about yourself that you may not have already known. There will be a lot of responsibilities that you'll have to see to, but you'll also have the freedom to do whatever you please – within reason, of course.

The world is your oyster in terms of places that you can study, but Australia is certainly one of the top options to choose from. Not only are there plenty of new experiences to take part in, but it’s also a foreigner-friendly destination where you’ll be able to mingle with the locals. Here are some tips for students looking to study in Australia, in order to better prepare you for your trip down under.

Preparing Before You Leave

In order to ensure that your time studying abroad is well spent, you’ll first want to confirm that you can find a university that offers the courses that you need to complete your degree. Thanks to the internet, you can do plenty of research on a variety of schools that are located throughout Australia. Once you find one that is the perfect fit, then it’s time to start planning for your arrival.

Finding a Place to Stay

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find a job while in Australia, unless you are able to get a work visa on top of your student visa. However, your time in Australia would probably be better spent exploring, hanging out at the beach and enjoying as much of the experience as possible. Therefore, be sure to look for a place that is cheap and you can afford throughout your entire semester.

Most commonly, there are three different options to choose from when looking for housing. First, student housing is a great opportunity to meet other people that also attend the university. Living with a host family can be helpful, as they’ll guide you with things to do and see while in Australia.

Finally, you may want to consider living in an extended-stay hostel, which could be the cheapest route to go. You can also chose hostel for temporary accommodation while searching for more suitable place to stay. In this case it could be useful to rent a locale storage unit for storing your belongings in protected short term storage place.

Look for Local Hangouts for Cheap Food and Drinks

Again, keeping in mind that you’ll likely have a budget, it’s important to do your best to find some great local hangouts for the best food and drink options. The more that you visit a place, the more recognizable you’ll be to the staff that works there. And if you are a friendly foreigner, you can bet that these people will want to get to know you and ask questions about life in your home country.

While you are in Australia, be sure to check out some of the common foods that you won’t be able to find back home. For those that want to be safe, consider a meal that consists of barbequed snags - a type of sausage - or Tin Tams - a delicious after-meal treat. But if you are feeling even more exotic, witchetty grubs and Barramundi are two local delicacies that you likely won’t find anywhere else.

Having Fun, but Staying Safe

There is so much to do in Australia that you’ll truly never have a boring moment while studying abroad. Taking up scuba diving or surfing are two great options if you live near the beach. Or if you are a bit more inland, then you can consider learning more about Australian sports or even the animals that are in the outback. But no matter what you do, be sure that you stay safe during your visit. As a student, you’ll be expected to represent your country and your school in a proper way. If you are safe and smart during your time in Australia, you’ll be sure to have a great time.

If studying at the school you’ve been going to for a few years now is starting to wear on you, consider how a change of scenery might be just what you need. You only get one chance to study abroad and experience this type of lifestyle, so you might as well do it while you are young. And while there are plenty of places in this world, Australia offers plenty of attention-grabbing experiences that will be sure to excite and amaze, as well as provide you with a lifetime worth of memories.
