Tanning tips for lovely looking summer skin.

Don't let the sun age your skin, instead follow our step-by-step guide to the perfect self-tan.

The key to a gorgeous fake tan without streaks is preparation.

Fake tan is best applied to smooth legs, so shave or wax before.

Exfoliate well to get rid of any dead skin.

Moisturise your skin well, and leave time to soak in, no less than 10 minutes.

Don't ply to wet skin.

To avoid telltale orange hands, you may wish to wear latex gloves as you apply.

Pay special attention to dry and creased areas including knees, ankles, heels, toes, elbows and hands.

You can use a damp cloth to go over spots where you are worried you have put too much on or applied unevenly.

For a natural look, remember not to leave areas like underarms, neck and bottom white.

Don't apply too much. Build up gradually - you can always apply again, but wait overnight to do so or you run the risk of streaks. You will also be able to see how the tan has developed so you know where to reapply.

Try a moisturiser with self-tan in - the effect is too subtle to look bad if it goes wrong, but use it everyday and you'll build up a deep colour.

Wash your hands thoroughly straight away.

Wait an hour before putting clothes on.

Don't exfoliate heavily or you will scrub away your tan - though doing this can be useful if you went wrong!

Tan removal wipes are also available if it goes wrong.

If there are gaps once your tan has developed, you can fill them in with individual self-tan wipes.
