Coming of Age
Created by: Gareth Hargreaves, 07 August 2012
A celebration of the human spirit in the face of life’s challenges, Coming of Age uses the art to challenge negative perceptions around ageing. It explores how and why we age and affirms positive responses to the experience, as seen through the eyes of both artists and scientists.
Inspired by the work of Newcastle University’s Institute for Ageing and Health, which seeks to challenge the negative perceptions about older people in society, Coming of Age: the art and science of ageing features new commissions by Andrew Carnie, Annie Cattrell and Jennie Pedley and further works by Susan Aldworth, Carla Bromhead, Valerie Laws, Melanie Manchot, Susie Rea, Martin A Smith and Stelarc. The show runs at GV Art Gallery until 18 August 2012
