The Handmaid’s Tale returns to C4

The multi award-winning The Handmaid’s Tale, based on Margaret Atwood’s classic dystopian novel, returns for a fourth season this month on Channel 4.

The Handmaid’s Tale returns for a fourth season in April.

The fourth season of the multi-Emmy®, Golden Globe® and BAFTA Award winning series The Handmaid’s Tale premieres on Channel 4 in April. Season 1-3 of the critically acclaimed smash hit will also be available ahead of the launch of season 4 on All 4.

Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the twisted fundamentalist Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States.

Elisabeth Moss reprises her role as Offred/June Osborne, who chooses to stay and fight the brutal Gilead regime and rescue her daughter Hannah rather than save herself and escape at the end of season three.

Season four sees most of the major players from previous seasons return. Joseph Fiennes is back as Commander Fred Waterford and Yvonne Strahovski and even before we get into this season, it seems certain that a fifth is already slated – so any thoughts you have that Offred and her daughter will be swiftly and happily reunited will need to be shelved.

Indeed, whatever success the resistance has in the coming episodes, Offred’s lot seems destined to be pushed down a miserable path with news that Hulu has has secured the rights to Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel, The Testaments set 15 years after the events of the The Handmaid’s Tale. For that, though, we will have to wait.
