The Call Of The WildPosted on: 26 March 2008 by Gareth Hargreaves
Wildlife holidays that really do bring you back to nature.
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to come to face to face with gorillas in the wild, a new tour to Uganda offers you the chance to find out for yourself. Tribes, the Fair Trade Travel company, is now offering two new fantastic trips to Uganda starting in October 2005.
The Gorillas Tour offers an intensive look at gorillas for people with a passion for these primates. The itinerary is based around spending as much time as possible in the forests with gorillas. Three permits are included in the price, trekking both in Uganda’s PNV and Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The tour also stops en route at Lake Mburo for some classical game viewing as well as the chance to relax in the beautiful landscape at Lake Bunyoni.
Details: The 10 day trip is £2,050 excluding flights, for a group departure on Feb 6th 2006. This is also available as a tailor made trip.
Gorillas, Chimps and Wildlife is a 12 day trip taking you to the very best of Uganda’s national parks. There is excellent game viewing for plains animals as well as lions, hippos and elephants at Queen Elizabeth National Park. At Kibale there are chimps and lots of other primates as well as wetlands for some excellent birding. At Bwindi Impenetrable Forest you can go gorilla trekking and at Lake Bunyoni you will have the chance to relax in this fabulous landscape.
Details: Price £2,350 excluding flights but including the gorilla trekking permit. Group departure: 24 Oct - 4 Nov 2005. Also available as a tailor made trip. Both tours can be booked at: www.tribes.co.uk
But if gorillas aren't quite your thing, but you are still looking for adventure, WildWings are offering a £900 per person discount on the last few berths available onboard the Cachalote, an elegant three-masted topsail schooner, on an exceptional ten night itinerary in July exploring Darwin’s magical islands of the Galapagos.
The itinerary offers a full circumnavigation of 10 nights duration ensuring you will get a good cross section of these starkly beautiful islands with a wealth of incredibly tame and fearless wildlife. An additional special feature is the trip to see giant tortoises in the wild. The Galapagos has one of the highest rates of endemism of any island group with 26 species of endemic birds – in 2004 the WildWings group saw 24 out of the 26 species and heard the 25th!
Details: There are a few berths left on the 14-29 July 2005 departure at the reduced price of £2,499 per person sharing a twin cabin (a discount of £900 per person on the original selling price). Price includes scheduled flights from Heathrow, pre and post-voyage hotel accommodation in Quito, full board on vessel, all excursions and services of WildWings leader and local guides. For those booking ahead, registrations are being taken for the 2006 departure: 13-28 July 2006. For more information visit: www.wildwings.co.uk
